Children:  Most children are ready for self defense training by the age of 5. If you have a child that is interested in fighting skills, start them at 4 years old. This is certainly an age where more awareness leads to less chaos. When a child connects with Self Defense concepts, they no longer consider themselves as completely defenseless. After minimal amounts of the proper training, their self-image changes, because they know they have a plan.  Children need a program that is fitted to their needs in today’s society. They have to survive the school yard and beyond, and are much safer when they know what to do “Just in case.” There are many Martial Arts styles to choose from, and every one of them teaches the “basics”. There are Military Style dojos, and there are Family style dojos. Either way choose a program that fits the nature of your child. In most communities, there are short term programs, where you can, enroll your child, at reduced costs. Even  as inexpensive as $5.00 a lesson. The greatest gift you can give a child is the knowledge of self defense. It is the best investment you can make to help your child learn to protect themselves, and step into the future with confidence, and expanded awareness of self and others. This will not only help your child, but also the whole family.

Teens:  Most teenagers admire self defense skills, because by that age everyone has experienced being a victim in some way. Having greater self control, more self esteem, and greater empowerment abilities, helps, your teen to face adulthood, with considerable momentum. Knowing that fighting is only used to protect oneself, and reducing conflicts, with knowledge, and intellect, can be more powerful than kicking ass. Especially, if you consider the costs, of repairing the human body.  Weak and unaware people are the first to be preyed upon. Teenagers can benefit greatly, with a program that teaches them proper values, and goals. Basically all physical skills, are cross training for self defense. Just getting stronger, in some way, benefits your self defense skills.

Adults:   The protection of our families, in now more complicated than ever. Abductions of women and children seem to be in the news almost every day. Self defense training is one of the main ingredients of Enhanced Family Defense. Even small children can be an extra set of eyes, and ears. And older children, can help protect the younger children, as this is nature’s way.  The need for self defense, has always been with us, as it is a necessary part of survival. The young, the weak, and the old, have always been preyed upon, as is the case with women. Teach your children to know the “Warrior within”

Never forgetting, that the warrior is guided by the intellect. Enhance your safety no matter where you go. Being “Street Smart” is an essential for every family member, including Mom and Dad. It is a parents job to provide their children with the tools , first to survive, and then to succeed in this life. Self defense training, like many sports, train the mind and the body to a higher degree of coordination, speed, and power.  The sport of self defense is an essential learning element, in a child’s education. Kind of like learning to swim on the land. You never know when you might need your enhanced survival skills.

The Yen Ching Tao Kenpo Karate System, and the “Street Smart” system of self defense, use the APPEE, pronounced “Ape” system. We increase our “Awareness” of self, others, and our environment. We use these new factors to increase our use of “Prevention”. We train and we cross-train in “Preparation” for times of great danger, where we will need to “Empower” our-selves to “Execute” in the proper manner.
